Here is a lip-sync character acting animation. The audio was taken from the 11SecondClub website, and is from the show series "The Mick." It's actually 12 seconds and took a while due to other work.
This is here for documentation purposes. This humanoid, colored animated GIF took about 7 hours and 15 minutes to make (2 hours, 54 minutes for sketching; 3 hours, 48 minutes for clean-up; 30 minutes for flat color; and 3 minutes to export into a GIF through Krita- rounded up to 7 hours, 30 minutes). It has a total of 12 drawings and 21 frames. It runs at 24 frames per second to make it less than one second per loop.
My animated short, "The Gecko with a Reed" won its first award, "Best Animation" in the International Film Festival Manhattan of Autumn 2021. I am grateful that it was deemed impressive enough to be featured and awarded. Congrats to Fang Hsin Kai for their film "The Hole", as well as to all other participants in this film festival!
"The Gecko with a Reed" has been selected for three festivals as of now, and this is the first award from them.
My character reel is now available to view on the Home page. This features character animation from late 2019 to mid 2021. The software featured is Toon Boom Harmony Essentials for animation, Krita for background art and character design, and HitFilm Express for compositing, motion graphics and editing.
This is an animation of a modern day tiger chasing after a bus. The frame-by-frame animation was made in Toon Boom Harmony.
I finally published a new animated short video titled "The Gecko with a Reed." A lone gecko passes through the rain forest with a snake on its trail.
This is an original story that was designed, storyboarded, animated, composited, audio-mixed and edited by me. The characters, objects and backgrounds were designed in Krita; the animation was made with Toon Boom Harmony; the video was composited and edited in HitFilm Express; and the audio was mixed in Audacity and Cakewalk. This took me two years to make-- from the initial sketch storyboard that was done in late October of 2018-- while balancing freelancing, temporary and part-time jobs. The idea for this short came from me considering the stories associated with the characters on one of my Facebook banners. After publishing "Convenience, " I thought to focus on smaller stories. This short managed to be a bit longer anyways. The process was much smoother, though, since I laid out the important moments in the storyboard. I would be nice if I can further develop The Gecko with a Reed into a game, but I will see what opportunities lie ahead.
Here are some walk cycles. I was experimenting with pacing to make the man an "average" long-stride walker and the woman an irritated hasty walker.
March 3, 2020 Update
I've added a moving background to each of the walk cycles. In Toon Boom Harmony Essentials, I set the keyframes for the starting and ending positions. Then I added keyframes every 2 frames to line up with the exposure of the drawings. Finally, I changed all the in-between frames to stop-motion keyframes. This makes the background motion line up with the character to prevent the character from sliding forward.
March 20, 2020 Update
This walk cycle is of a large man whose arms swing out more. His walk is slightly slower than the average man's.
Here is an animation for the final output of the superhuman male drawing I made. The final image can be found on the Gallery page.
This is a teaser-style animation that could represent a game or graphic novel. This initiated from trying to visualize the scorn of society during the time of Jesus in the first century.
Here are a few more title animations that I made in HitFilm Express. "Sandstorm" had been pretty much done for a while, while "Hidden Code" was made a day ago.
